Artistic and aesthetic manifestations of the science of explanation and the science of innovation in the poetry of Aziz Ijaz
Abstract
Aziz Ejaz is one of the prominent contemporary Urdu poets whose poetry reflects romanticism, human emotions, social consciousness, and artistic excellence. His poetic collection Pindar demonstrates a remarkable use of rhetorical and literary devices that enhance both the beauty and effectiveness of his expression. This article critically examines the application of Ilm-ul-Bayan (figures of speech) and Ilm-ulBadi‘(embellishments) in Aziz Ejaz’s poetry. Through an analytical study of selected verses, it explores the use of simile, metaphor, metonymy, and allusion, along with various rhetorical devices such as tajnis (paronomasia), ishtiqaq (derivation), repetition, and contrast. The study concludes that Aziz Ejaz successfully combines artistic craftsmanship with emotional depth, making his poetry aesthetically appealing as well as intellectually engaging. His mastery of classical rhetorical traditions places him among the significant voices of modern Urdu poetry.
